Catlin Gabel School is seeking an Assistant JV Girls Tennis Coach

Season is March 1 to May 15 2015

Girls Junior Varsity tennis coach needed at a private high school in Portland competing
at the 4A level. We have a very successful program and are looking for an experienced
coach to oversee and develop our JV Program.

The person we are seeking has excellent communication skills, the ability organize
practices and to teach tennis fundamentals to players of various skill levels. The
successful candidate will have not only excellent tennis references, but outstanding
character references.

You would need to be available from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm Monday through Friday. Court
time (2 indoor and 2 outdoor courts) is shared with the boys team so each practice day
is only 90 minutes. The JV team consists of approximately 20 girls, grades 9-12.

This is a paid position. Experienced volunteer coaches are available to assist.

NFHS/OSAA Coaches Certifications (prior to hire)
Current First Aid/CPR Card (prior to hire)
Season salary:$3100.00

Job Title:  Varsity Cheer Coach
Supervisor:  Athletic Director/Principal

Job Summary
The cheerleading coach is responsible for choreography and teaching cheer routines to the cheerleading team.  Be knowledgeable and skilled in stunting, tumbling, and competitive cheer techniques to prepare them for events and competition and to ensure the safety of all program participants.  Have the ability to motivate student athletes to  develop an appreciation of the sport and lead them to success.  Be professional, organized and a dedicated coach.  The coach is responsible for scheduling and conducting practices and supervising the team at all school football and basketball games and any other activities to promote school spirit.

Essential Responsibilities
        Meet OCCA, OSAA, and PIL requirements as an athletic/cheer coach.
        Follows OCCA, OSAA, and PIL regulations governing the program.
Work with cheerleaders during practices, athletic events, and competitions.
Assess skills and assign team positions.
        Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team      development.
        Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices.
        Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, and techniques of the sport.
Establish and maintain standards of behavior and provide proper supervision of student athletes at all times.
Model sport-like behavior and maintain appropriate professional conduct by being a positive role model for cheerleaders.
Monitors academic performance and attendance of all team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
Enforce team expectations, including those regarding school and practice attendance, missed practices and/or games, un-sportsman-like conduct, etc.
         Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
Arranges fittings, ordering, and distribution of uniforms.
         Maintains financial accounts for each team member to ensure payments are made to the Bookkeeper on time and all accounts are paid in full by the end of each school year.
Organizes meetings for team prospects and encourages student participation.
Hold tryouts to select team members for the following season.
Acts as a team representative and promotes cheerleading with the booster club, athletic hall of fame, media, service clubs, and other organizations.
         Works with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award (letter) winners at the end of the season.
         Maintain an open communication system with parents of athletes. 
Recognizes seniors at the end of season football and basketball games, and holds an awards banquet at the end of the season.
Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and works closely with the Athletic Director to ensure all cheerleaders have met eligibility requirements prior to the start of the season.
Participates in special activities to include pep assemblies, back to school nights, 8th grade information nights, and other school scheduled events.

Other Duties

Attends required safety workshops, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal, Athletic Director or other appropriate administrators.

Minimum Qualifications
Some experience as a competitive Cheerleader coach at the high school, All-star, or college level preferred.  Previous experience in working with high school age students preferred.  Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.  Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.  Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
